The owners of Drupal describe the site as “Community Plumbing”, well there is certainly a great flow of information! This is the official site for the Drupal open source software so common in today’s personal and business blogs.
While the Drupal system is obviously the central focus of the site, there is a vast array of information on other relevant subjects. From Google’s next conference, to the next version of Drupal, to sites which users may find of interest. The beauty of such open source sites is their non-aggressive approach to selling, which draws you in.
While the Drupal code is the main software package, much like WordPress, there are masses of add-ons and additional coding available - often free of charge - from new designs to music widgets, with more added on a regular basis.
In addition to the homepage blog which offers a great insight into the package, there are also additional sections taking in online user handbooks, a busy forum, downloads and details of what seems like every Drupal discussion site on the internet!
The original Drupal code was written by Dries Buytaert in 2000, and while a number of variations have been released to date, the ideals of the package remain the same. The coding is used by a number of high profile websites, including MTV.co.uk, Kernel Trap, Moby.com and US Online to name but a few.
The Drupal package has a firm presence in the content management market, and interest is growing all of the time.
