Nick, this does not seem like a productive use of time: 3-4 links for 100 emails sent out. Have you found other methods of link building that produced a better return on investment of time?

Hi Nick,

You can see how many backlinks a site by using this command on yahoo - “linkdomain:www.aerobed.co.uk -site:www.aerobed.co.uk”, currently it reports that there are 328 backlinks. But remember quality over quantity.

I got about 20 links from the 300 emails.

You said that you set a target of getting 2,000 backlinks. Did you reach that?

You also said that you sent 300 emails. How many links did you get by following this method? I usually get 3-4 links back to my site for every 100 emails I send. Is that good?

Here are some directories suggested by SEODesign Blog which, allegedly, are free, quick to accept links, and show up on the search engines:

“wikidweb.com - I list here first because it is an instant listing, you can include links to interior pages and the search engines spider this site quickly. I expect these links to strengthen over time, but right now it’s great spider food.

So Much - Quick acceptance, allows deep linking and links show up in all three SEs.

AbiLogic.com - If you want a quick listing, consider a reciprocal link.

A Free Directory - This directory is quick and the links show up in SEs. This is not a strong link, but might mature over time. These folks have a bunch of other directories, but they are on the same Class C IP block. This directory seems to perform a bit better than the others.

All Links Directory - Quick listing, deep linkging, some strong pages and the links show up in SEs.

Tsection - Quick acceptance, allows deep linking and the links show up in SEs.

Fabaroo - Quick listing and the links show up in the SEs.”

From what I understand from Seomoz, even a penalized directory can still have some link value. Here is the name of a directory that is free and is quick to add the link: teonix.net. More importantly, the link showed up on Yahoo within a week or two.

I would be interested in knowing about other free directories who add new links quickly and whose links show up fast on the search engines. Only a fraction of the directories I have submitted to have actually provided me a link which showed up on Yahoo. (Which, as you know, is the only search engine that will reveal the existing links to your site.)
